Fuse Box Replacements in London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridge

Replacing and upgrading your fuse boxes in London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridge

Fuse Box Replacement in London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridge

A fuse box, also known as an electricity board, is designed to keep your electrics working safely throughout your property. Fuse boxes are a key component in electrical emergencies in London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridge, protecting you and any residents from fire or injury. They work to cut off the circuit and interrupt current flow in the event of overheating or currents exceeding capacity.

Our electricians at AC1 electrical have years of experience dealing with fuse boxes and all their related issues in London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridge. If your fuse box is faulty, out of date, or you’re simply looking for an upgrade, our electricians are qualified in fuse box replacement.

Consumer Units

Electrical fuse boxes are also referred to as consumer units, distributing electricity from the main unit to circuits around the home or business. Traditional fuse boxes often don’t comply with modern health & safety regulations, which is why AC1 Electrical recommends upgrading your old fuse box.

Faulty Electrics

If you’re experiencing faulty electrics in your property, whether it’s sparking sockets or flickering lights, there might be an issue with your fuse box. Faulty electrics are the cause of 12,500 annual fires in homes across the UK. If you believe your electrics need fixing, get in touch with AC1 Electrical.

Residual Current Devices (RCD)

Residual Current Devices (or RCDs) are known as life-saving devices as they can efficiently break electrical circuits, preventing electric shocks or further injury. They can be built onto fuse boxes, almost like a safety adapter, and are especially useful for systems that don’t have circuit breakers.

Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB)

Similar to RCDs, miniature circuit breakers (or MCBs) are trip switches that open circuits when a passing current exceeds a certain threshold. They can be installed on fuse boxes, but can be manually switched on and off when required. MCBs can help increase the safety standards of your property.

+
What does replacing a fuse box involve?

It is standard procedure that as a part of replacing your fuse box, your existing electrical wiring must be fully tested. See EICR reports and certificates for more information on electrical testing and inspections.

Our qualified and competent electricians will carry out a series of tests to ensure that your existing wiring is suitable for a modern '18th edition' consumer unit with incorporated RCD (Residual Current Device) before installing it. Without such testing, there is a possibility that the new consumer unit will pick up any existing underlying wiring faults and continuously trip, leaving you without power.

Usually there are no problems when installing a new consumer unit fuse box (people still call it a fuse box, but fuses are no longer used in new installations). If there are problems, we will highlight these, allowing you to make appropriate decisions on whether to proceed or not, in rare circumstances the electrical wiring within the existing installation may be so outdated or faulty it will require part or full rewiring.
